If I were to go all conspiracy theory over
recent political events, I’d definitely believe that Pnoy coldheartedly
engineered events that led to Jesse Robredo’s 2012 plane crash to make room for
Mar Roxas’ own presidential bid in 2016.
But that would be too nasty even for this
little tiyanak.
So let’s just say Pnoy was calculating
enough to seize the opportunity presented to him by the circumstance of Jesse’s
untimely demise.
It is no big secret that with Mar’s losing
the Vice President slot to Jojo Binay in 2010 left Pnoy in a very awkward
position. First of all a Samar faction of his
presidential campaign went into a Noy-Bi craze. Pnoy, a firm believer in the
adage “politics is addition” capitalized on him being carried both by Mar’s
Balay faction and the old Cory yellows’ Samar
faction.
Now the Balays, especially the Roxas family
and the dethroned Koring, feel that Mar was betrayed by Pnoy. So one year after
his loss Mar was accommodated into the next available high profile government
position, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) which was
quickly vacated by Ping de Jesus (whose reasons for leaving are quite
interesting and should be a nice discussion I the future).
But in 2012 the Robredo crash offered Pnoy
a great opportunity for his fair haired boy. Jesse’s death being a plane crash,
it was Mar’s DOTC that had the lead in such matters because it headed civil
aviation authorities. Thrusting Mar in the limelight with the search and rescue
operations and, later, with the high profile investigation on the crash Mar was
suddenly back into circulation.
Phase two was having Mar replace Jesse’s
post in the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the perfect
platform for the national political organizing needed for 2016.
As a bonus, the Jesse plane crash created
another opportunity for Pnoy by the way of his widow Leni. She was the woman
behind the man, a backroom political player through her own way of “being in
the kitchen preparing coffee while the men discussed politics.” Just like mom,
clicked Pnoy’s brain. And she’s a lawyer to boot.
So in parallel Pnoy got Leni a starter set,
a political position in the House of Representatives as a Liberal. Then on to
2016 where a more powerful national office could provide him what he really
needed. Is it such as surprise that suddenly, in this past year Leni’s social
media exposure suddenly zoomed, starting with her photo of waiting for the bus
in a Magallanes gas station for her trip home to Naga, photos of her mimicking
her husband “tsinelas governance”, and conveniently taking and releasing that
photo making that secret fire escape entrance to the last State of the Nation
Address (SONA). And her sycophants – the same Pnoy die-hards led by
entertainment has beens Jim Paredes, Leah Navarro, Cynthia Patag – are gushing
to the bone. Cold, calculated political communications.
The result: Pnoy’s preparations for a
perfect cover for when he finally steps down in 2016. He definitely wants to
avoid vengance after what he did to Gloria Arroyo, Renato Corona and a mob
of hacienda Luisita farmer beneficiaries, all of whom he had kept at bay only
because he held the power and resources of the highest office of the land.
So Pnoy will make sure #marlen will be the team
to beat, a bigger hit than the current rave #aldub.
